Dear Holger,
I’m touched by the simplicity of Rupert Spira‘s teachings. I listened to the podcast from our last group meeting and revisited his book You Are the Happiness You Seek.
What strikes me is that there are just a few “truths” that matter to me. I’ve gathered them below.
Awareness is simple noticing. And to notice the noticing as constant, in the midst of the sea of “the ever-changing.”
The nature of Awareness has four non-qualities:
- Peace – non-perturbed
- Satisfied – no lack, no needs
- Borderless
- Eternal – non-acquired, non-aged, non-ending
Our true nature is peace and happiness, and it is shared with everyone and everything.
To know this by experience is enlightenment, for lack of a better term.
A brief pause is all that is needed. A single pause restores us to our True Nature. We are home in a brief pause, seemingly leaving home less and less.
There is humility in this, in that there could be a scenario which seemingly overtakes us, or rather obscures us from ourselves. Yet it all comes back in a brief pause.
And there is a dynamic of coming home that quiets over time, with us always basically being at home with ourselves.
Past patterns erode in this, and deep-seated psychic structures are unmoored, like a wooden dock breaking down and being carried out to sea.
Strong emotions are faced, welcomed, and generously allowed to linger indefinitely, since the peaceful watching of them is more of who we are than the emotions themselves.
This, too, is a gradual undoing. Noticed peacefully. In real time, or in retrospect.
In terms of relating to the world of “apparent” others, the pause is key. To pause, and then respond from Being to however others seem to accost us, or play nice with us.
To live from this place, to live from this knowing, one response at a time.
To love God and do what you will.
To taste our Essence and then respond to life: this is the whole of the matter, really.
Also, to feel. To feel the essential unity we share when with the “other.” Like the pause, it’s a simple and light burden, and is simply enough.
In terms of Christianity, it’s a large culture, a large history, laden with much baggage, yet also housing these simple truths in many places and many creative expressions.
What strikes me this time around with it all is the sincerity of our experience. The integrity of our speech and our actions in alignment with this simplicity. Our Peaceful Presence and non-reactivity. People notice our warm acceptance and grow curious, or at least take note.
To respond to them from Being.
Or not! To respond from an ego mind… only to pause, and then respond yet again, from Being.
(I’d call this “The Key to Relationships or Marriage,” but it’s too simple for such a grandiose title.)
And so Christianity is a large culture compared to the sincerity of my experience, which is simple, yet also vast and profound.
It will be their own experience which changes their heart and mind. Their experience of these simple truths. Their experience of us. The experience of our Presence. And possibly our words, helping their experience of all of this.
This is not a task or burden per se. And it does not need to happen at all. (Being confirms this.)
And so we respond from Being, and it plays out however it plays out.
A place on the web where the experience (of recognizing our true nature, or the nature of who we really are) can be “tried,” with light Christian language to label it, could be helpful for some.
This concludes my State of the Union. Thank you for your attention to such matters (ha ha).
Pausing,
Responding,
Being.
